Jacqueline's ramblings - Joepie is back from the vet
Joepie is back from the vet|
And he's doing just fine. They kept him on a heart monitor and gave him a saline drip and extra oxygen to support his heart, as a result of which he had no heart or breathing trouble while he was sedated at all. His teeth are once again squeaky clean, which I'm sure will be very temporary since he always gets tartar really fast. He got an injection with an antibiotic to make sure the nastiness from the tartar can't do anything nasty to his heart or other organs, which is why the whole thing was necessary to begin with. Y'see, tartar causes inflammation of the gums, which makes a convenient entrance for all kinds of nasty bugs, which then have access to the blood stream which leads them to (primarily) the heart and the kidneys. And Joepie already has enough problems in those organs, thanks very much.
He started eating again before he could even walk properly and wonder of wonders even managed to keep it all in. I'll be giving him some salmon for his birthday on monday (that's when he officially turns eighteen) and I'll also tell him that I expect him to hang on for another few years.
Current Mood: relieved
Come to think of it, it's my cats' birthday this weekend, I believe (I was told they were discovered as newly-borns with their then stray mother at the end of May 1997). So there may be some special tuna on the menu. And if they're not going for that, I found a new stash of their favourite variety of Whiskas pouches a few days ago.
There are very few cats who won't go for tuna. The last time I had a cat turn away from a bowl of tuna, I took him to the vet and right enough, he had a huge case of pneumonia.
Happy Salmon Day to Joepie for Monday! :D
I may not be able to get the salmon in time, in which case it'll be tuna day. But then again, this video
clearly shows that this is an acceptable alternative.
It does indeed! (I must watch the other videos now that I've seen that one.) So, in that case, Happy Salmon Alternative Day to Joepie for Monday :D
Excellent news! And I wish Joepie a very happy birthday. Our cats get tuna on their birthdays (and ours). :-)
Thanks! My answer to jomacmouse
explains why there may be tuna here as well.
I have several of their vids saved in my playlist!
